Charity

“Compassion and love are the soul of nature, which can be seen in the eyes of all living beings”

Sunny island of Bali… How much meaning we put into these words. A paradise corner where everything seems calm and effortless. Imagination paints a simple picture: a person slowly drinks a coconut by the ocean, warms up in the sun, and all around there are smiles and carefree faces. And yes, in many ways this is true. But this beauty has another side as well

It is close by, yet often goes unnoticed. We are talking about our younger friends — the four-legged ones who live alongside people. Those we are used to seeing every day — and sometimes we walk past without thinking about what they have been through and what they continue to endure

Those who look at us with a quiet, attentive gaze when we eat. Those whose warm breath and wet nose we sometimes feel nearby — when they carefully come closer, simply to be near

Stray dogs on the island

In Bali, street dogs are often perceived differently than in Western culture: for many, they are not “pets” in the usual sense, but part of everyday island life. At the same time, it is important to remember the reality: due to economic difficulties, not every family can afford sterilization, vaccinations, and regular veterinary care. Sometimes owners find themselves in a situation where they simply cannot cope, and animals end up on the streets. This is a complex issue where much depends not on indifference, but on resources and the level of awareness
The world is changing — and along with it, people’s attitudes toward animals are changing. On the island, more and more people consciously choose care, kindness, and responsibility toward living beings
Today, more and more organizations and shelters for stray animals are appearing in Bali. Most often, they exist thanks to donations and volunteer help, so they almost always face a lack of funds. Often such projects have debts at veterinary clinics — this is one of the biggest challenges of charity work. But even this does not stop people who continue to rescue, treat, and care for those who need help the most
We will tell you about some of these organizations below

BAWA

A non-profit organization based in Bali works to rescue, protect, and improve the lives of all animals on the island and beyond

BAWA provides emergency response and rescue, food and medicine, rehabilitation and adoption, and also practices humane population control and disease prevention
The type of animal does not matter, help will be provided to all who need it, but the key focus is the Bali dog, which is under threat

Funds raised through donations are used to implement the following programs:

• Emergency response and rescue;
• Rehabilitation and adoption services;
• Stray dog population control
• Street feeding

Mission Pawsible

A small organization, but with the same goal — rescuing stray animals, is based and operates on the island of Bali

Rescuing sick, injured, and abandoned animals is not cheap, so they created an online store that sells useful items. The buyer knows that the proceeds will be used to help animals in need, and there is also an option to make a regular monetary donation

To help, you don’t necessarily have to donate money — you can also foster or adopt a rescued dog and bring them into your home

BARS

They position themselves as a shelter for stray animals, providing vaccinations, sterilization, and other necessary medical care to all rescued animals

They run educational programs for schoolchildren and students to teach the importance of caring for pets

All of this is impossible without both financial and personal support from people — 100% of all donations go toward improving the lives of Bali’s animals

Anyone can help…

These are only the largest animal welfare organizations In fact, many other initiatives and volunteers operate on the island, doing what they can to help stray dogs: vaccinating, treating, rehabilitating, and finding them homes

There are also small groups that barely talk about themselves publicly Sometimes their work is not legally registered, so they prefer to work quietly and without extra attention At the same time, some of these people care for more than 50 dogs — and they continue to do their good work within their means

Today, there are many animals in Bali who need support — both financial and human: volunteer help, involvement, care Donations make it possible to pay ongoing bills at veterinary clinics, treat animals, carry out sterilization, and thereby humanely reduce the number of stray dogs Sometimes it is exactly people’s initiatives that become decisive — especially where the problem remains without systemic support This is how a community of animal advocates gradually forms, and new aid projects appear

Such organizations always need support If you feel a response and have the possibility, you can visit their website and choose a convenient way to help In addition to donations, shelters and foundations are always happy to welcome volunteers — but for this it is important to be on the island
